Nokia OZO Audio
With the Nokia 8, HMD Global has brought the OZO Audio technology to your pockets. The audio standard is known for its presence in Hollywood movies and enables the phone to record 360° audio while capturing 4K videos. While the addition will serve a niche crowd, it can significantly improve the audio experience for anyone out there if it works just as Nokia is claiming.
Dual-Sight
Another entirely new feature the Nokia 8 offers is something the company calls “Dual-Sight”. It will essentially let you live stream videos natively to Facebook and YouTube, for starters. However, what sets this apart is the fact that you can utilize both the front and rear sensors in a split screen visual for both photos and videos. If advertised correctly, this can become one of the key selling aspects as video-logging (vlogging) continue to soar on platforms like YouTube. Also, HMD Global has settled with the title – “Bothie stories” for this which I think is the stupidest name ever assigned to a content format. Just saying.
ZEISS Optics
A better part of the hype surrounding this smartphone is largely because of ZEISS’s return to the industry. The German optical company is primarily known for its lens quality during the early Nokia Lumia days. The Nokia 8 sports a dual-camera arrangement on the rear that houses two 13-megapixel sensors, one of which shoots color and the other one, monochrome. Together, they will be able to produce relatively accurate images and a true black and white filter.
Stock Android
The Nokia 8 will also add another option for those who prefer stock Android in the flagship arena. Out of the box, the device comes with pre-installed with Android 7.1.1 with negligible bloatware such as the blue-themed icon pack.
A Design that doesn’t feel like it’s on a Diet
While not the thinnest or the lightest, the Nokia 8 is certainly a looker as it’s reminiscent of the old Nokia. Flaunting a 7.3mm-thick unibody, the handset is built using 6000 series aluminum. In addition to that, a few limited edition models will come with a high-gloss mirror finish that Nokia says “has taken over 20 hours to complete to achieve a flawless look“. It will be available in four color options – Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue, and Steel.
Premium Specifications
The Nokia also comes with all the bells and whistles of a flagship-grade smartphone. It is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4 gigs of RAM, 64 gigs of internal storage which can be expandable and a 3090 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. On the front, there’s a 5.3-inch Quad HD LCD panel protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Moreover, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and a fingerprint sensor as well. Nokia 8 will be available at a global average retail price of €599 with a rollout throughout September.
