A server on Discord is a commonplace group where there are different channels, specifically targeting diverse topics that help users interact with other members in a more efficient and organized manner. To enhance the experience of these servers and offer more functionalities to the users, Discord allows you to add apps and bots to the servers. While apps, as you can guess by the name, are more of a full-fledged tool aimed at solving a particular task. Whereas bots, on the other hand, are utilities to help you perform repetitive tasks and save time. For instance, there are bots to manage servers, create webhooks, help other users by responding to their queries, and play music, among other purposes. Although you can find a bot based on your requirement/use-case scenario from the collection, there are times when you need to perform tasks for which there are no existing bots. So, for such instances, Discord allows you access to their API to help you create your own customized bots [More on it, here]. For the purpose of this guide, let’s stick to the existing bots. You can find these bots on various websites across the internet, such as Bots on Discord, top.gg, Carbonitex, and ProBot, to name a few. Furthermore, you can also find bots on Github, with a detailed guide on how to add and use them on your server.

Steps to Add Bots to a Discord Server

  1. Go to a Discord bots website and find and select a bot you want to add to your server.

  2. Tap on the Add to Discord button, and on the pop-up, enter your Discord credentials to log in to your account.

  3. In the drop-down menu that says Add Bot To, select the server to want to add the bot and hit Continue.

  4. Now, on the next screen, you will be asked to grant access to different permissions. Select/deselect accordingly and hit Authorize.

Note: Different websites refer to the add trigger differently. So, you might also see “Invite”, “Add to Server”, or something similar across these websites. However, the basic idea behind the trigger is the same — to authorize access to your server and add the bot — while the rest of the process remains the same.

Once done, you should see the bot on your server. To learn more about the bot and its different commands to use it to its full potential, head over to the website you added it from and go through the documentation/cheatsheet. That’s it! You can now improve your servers’ functionalities and enhance the user experience by adding new bots using the aforementioned steps. Additionally, you can also automate some of the basic tasks on the server to save yourself some time from engaging in regular mundane tasks.
